Desert Lightning

"Desert Lightning" was created with hand-dyed and dye painted fabric.  I used contrast as the dominant principal in this piece.  The obvious contrast is between the black foreground and white light, but there is also textural contrast between the soft, rounded forked shapes of the saguaro and the jagged forks of the lightning bolts.  We also innately understand the temporal contrast between the ephemeral moment of a lightning strike compared to the enduring existence of cactus.
